摘要

Europe's regional airlines are seeing an uptick in demand this year, but concerns about the cost of fuel eroding this gain remain. Members of the European Regions Airline Assn. (ERA) recorded a 9.9% growth in revenue passenger miles in the first six months of the year. To accommodate the growth, ERA carriers added 9.3% in capacity. "The growth is not so high that I would regard it as a sign of instability," ERA Secretary General Mike Ambrose says. He considers the development to be "a nice comfortable growth level" and sees "signs of increasing confidence in the business." Average yields have also slowed their downward trend, according to ERA. In Ambrose's view, Europe's regional carriers have gone a long way in adapting to a new business environment and the competition of low-fare airlines.
