The launch of FalconSAT-2, a small satellite designed, built and tested by U.S. Air Force Academy undergraduates for ionosphere research, has slipped to Nov. 23. It will be the sole payload on the inaugural flight of Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) Corp.'s Falcon 1 booster from Omelek Island in the Pacific (AW&ST Aug. 22, p. 31). FalconSAT-2 was shipped to Kwa-jalein on Nov. 8. Two days later, the first team of cadets left for the launch site, where they were to unpack their small-sat, run a series of tests to ensure all sys- tems are functional, then assist SpaceX personnel in mating the 43-lb. spacecraft and Falcon 1 launcher. If all goes as planned, the 12.5-in. cube satellite will be placed into a 450-km. (280-mi.) orbit inclined 39 deg. to the equator.
