Europe's Clean Sky 1 civil aviation research program has formally finished, but several of its key technology demonstrations remain to be completed, including laminar-flow wing and active rotor-blade flight tests and open-rotor engine ground runs. With no government funding available now that the program has ended, industry is paying to complete the demonstrations, but the results will be provided to the Clean Sky Joint Undertaking and shared with participants in the €1.6 billion ($1.7 billion) public-private research effort.
