Airbus's Silicon Valley outpost, A3, has received the first airframe component for its Vahana electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing (VTOL) demonstrator, which is on track to fly by year-end. The forward wing for the tandem tiltwing aircraft has been delivered, with the main wing and fuselage expected to arrive by mid-May. The supplier of the three carbon-fiber structures will be revealed shortly, notes Zach Lovering, Vahana project executive. "Our first full-scale component was delivered and fully tested, and it passed all qualification tests," he says.
