When the first commercial Bombardier CS100 flight, operated by Swiss International Air Lines, landed at London City Airport in early August, it launched one of the new growth opportunities available to the space-constrained airport now that it can accommodate the C Series. Because of its proximity to the financial district, London City is an extremely popular airport for business travelers, but its expansion is also complicated by the physical limitations of the facility, which is surrounded by water. Its single runway is only 4,900 ft. long. To reduce the noise impact, the airport is closed for 24 hr. from noon every Saturday.
