NATO's long-running program to field a ground surveillance capability is a step closer as Northrop Grumman begins integrating the radar sensor onto the first of five RQ-4B Global Hawk high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aircraft for the alliance. The Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) platform made its first flight on Dec. 19, flying from Northrop's Palmdale, California, facility to Edwards AFB, where integration and testing of the system will be performed. The 2.5-hr, flight focused on basic airworthiness, flying qualities and navigation performance of the AGS air segment-the aircraft and its command-and-control system.
