What is attracting aerospace companies to Thailand? Low wages, obviously. But the stream of parts makers and repairers entering the Southeast Asian country over the past decade or so needs more explanation than that. Inexpensive labor can be found in many places. The boss of Triumph's composites-focused Thai plant, Ronald Vuz, reels off a list of factors that supported the decision to set up a facility in the country: strong industrial infrastructure and logistics, consistently pro-business government policies and regulations, a solid education system with a focus on turning out engineers, location in a free-trade zone, nonunioniza-tion and, yes, wage rates that are key to competitiveness in a labor-intensive business.
