Designers looking for fuel savings and emissions reductions beyond those possible with today's conventional tube-and-wing configurations face additional challenges when the aircraft are smaller, such as regional and business jets. Unconventional configurations such as the aerodynami-cally and structurally efficient blended-wing body (BWB) tend to be more effective when the aircraft are larger-the size of today's widebodies-leaving designers looking for other options.
