Russia's first post-Soviet era commercial aircraft, the Sukhoi Superjet 100, started its commercial opera-tions four years ago, in April 2011. But the success of the country's top-priority aircraft program is still modest at best, as the manufacturer-Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Co. (SCAC)-struggles with financial difficulties and looks for new ways to increase sales. According to Russian industry sources, the company's controlling partners are negotiating changes in how the sales organization is organized. The division between SCAC (sales for Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States and Asia) and Superjet International (SJI, a joint venture between Sukhoi and the program's strategic partner, Alenia Aermacchi, that promotes the aircraft in the rest of the world) is expected to be eliminated, as program management is to be placed under the control of a newly established joint company. It is likely to be registered in Russia to have access to government support, and will manage both SCAC and SJI. But the new partnership approach, including changes in the shareholding structure, is no longer expected to be officially announced at the International Paris Air Show.
