After nearly a decade of glitzy briefings from Lockheed Martin pushing an international "block buy" of F-35s to drive production rates up and prices down, the Pentagon has finally signed on to the concept. Pentagon procurement chief Frank Kendall says every F-35 partner nation has expressed interest in participating in a block buy of the single-engine, stealthy jets to start in fiscal 2018. And he's putting the weight of the Pentagon buy behind it, too, with the hope of driving production to 150 aircraft per year or higher, at the end of the decade.
