Pratt & Whitney faces the busiest months yet of its geared turbo-fan development strategy as it simultaneously begins testing the first engines for Embraer's E-Jet E2 types, produces initial production engines for Bombardier's C Series, rushes delivery of upgraded flight-test units for the Airbus A320neo, and starts certification of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet powerplant. Details of Pratt's hectic summer emerged at the Paris Air Show which, despite the no-show of the PW1100G-powered A320neo, was a buoyant one for the engine-maker, thanks to new orders, the start of the E-Jet E2 PW1900G engine tests and, above all, the air show debut of Bombardier's C Series CS100 and CS300. The daily flying display of the latter aircraft impressed show attendees with its overall quietness, while inside the halls Bombardier reported better-than-expected performance figures as part of efforts to add a much-needed sales impetus to the delayed program.
