All eyes in the Western aerospace and defense industry seemingly were on Mobile, Alabama, on Sept. 14 as airliner giant and European defense prime contractor Airbus Group opened a new plant for its commercial aircraft. But trade officials in Washington apparently are casting their gaze back toward Airbus and France. A new government report suggests small- and medium-size parts manufacturers in the U.S. A&D industry may want to start with Airbus and France when looking to foreign markets to help grow their exports and stay competitive. The reasons have to do with currency and globalization trends.
