Plans to deliver more than 250 C Series airliners over the next five years are supported by the current or-derbook, Bombardier says, but analysts believe the company needs more sales to meet its target of building production up to as many as 120 a year in 2020. Bombardier unveiled its ramp profile at an investor day in New York on Nov. 24. The plan calls for delivery of 15-20 aircraft in 2016, 30-35 in 2017, 45-55 in 2018, 75-85 in 2019 and 90-120 in 2020, when the program is expected to begin generating positive cash flow. The "full-efficiency" mature production rate is planned at 120-150 aircraft a year, says CFO John Di Bert. The planned ramp-up, which would see 255-315 C Series in service by 2020, is "balanced, manageable and achievable," says Bombardier Commercial Aircraft President Fred Cromer. The rate increase can be delivered within the current orderbook-243 firm orders and 603 options and other commitments-and "does not depend on significant short-term orders," says Di Bert. But Cromer says his sales team "is focused on incremental orders" to boost the backlog.
