Latin America has been viewed by most as one of the most promising airline markets. Impressive growth and huge steps in quality and safety have made the continent the turnaround story in the industry. And 2014 appears set to become a year of further improvement. Like other regions, Latin America has recently seen the emergence of a few big players created by mergers. Avianca joined forces with Grupo Taca. Those two have been followed by LAN Airlines and TAM Brazil, which now form the new La-tam Airlines Group, with subsidiaries in almost every country in South America. Aeromexico and Copa Airlines are other strong players, along with Brazilian low-cost carrier Gol.
