Thirty years ago, the advent of a new generation of PW100-pow-ered aircraft ushered in the golden age of the regional turboprop airliner and with it Pratt & Whitney Canada's (P&WC) dominance of the market. For the fledgling regional industry-and P&WC in particular-1984 was truly a remarkable year. The PW120-powered ATR 42 took its maiden flight that August and the first PW120A-powered de Havilland Dash 8 entered service with NorOntair. Between these milestones P&WC also delivered the first production PW115 to Embraer for the EMB-120 program.
