The chances of a new South Korean fighter competition occurring in this decade are rising, with the air force, apparently fed up with the long-running KF-X indigenous fighter proposal, saying it may seek imported combat aircraft instead. The KF-X's future has never been assured, and it is looking increasingly doubtful as the Defense Acquisition Program Agency (DAPA), pushed by the finance ministry, orders a review of the proposed program's costs by a think thank that has already opposed it. The ministry's obvious aim is to obtain a report that will persuade the skeptical parliament not to fund full-scale development of the KF-X in 2015, keeping it in seemingly endless design studies.

7. Commodity prices have risen sharply since 2006. This may benefit developing countries specialized on primary exports, but poverty may increase.
