Before the end of this year, if the latest timetable holds, the first Comac C919 will begin coming together in Shanghai. The program has been repeatedly delayed but, in a sense, it is behind schedule on schedule-that is, when it was launched in 2008, industry executives widely expected the aircraft to be delivered not in 2016, as then promised, but in 2018, which a few weeks ago finally became the official target.
