Investors traditionally think of defense stocks as defensive. But earnings from defense products and services should not be as vulnerable to a slowdown in demand brought by weaker economic outlooks. In cases where new security threats and concerns cause a slower economic outlook, defense stocks should have the added bonus of potentially benefiting from stepped-up spending to address those threats.
