Speaking of strain on systems, the Swissport baggage handlers went on strike, unannounced, at the Brussels Airport on May 12.1 had the joy of experiencing this firsthand when I landed there for a connecting flight on May 13. I didn't learn of the strike until 15 min. before Brussels Airlines announced the boarding of my flight to Vilnius, Lithuania. Perhaps United Airlines did not know of the strike when I checked in for my flight across the Atlantic. It was just very odd to discover the strike by the boarding announcement in Brussels that went something close to this: "We will begin boarding Flight 2371, but due to a baggage handlers' strike, we can only board you and not your luggage." The airline's inflight service was great, but being in Vilnius for 2.5 days without luggage will probably override that positive experience.
