The North Sea oil industry pioneered the concept of oil and gas support operations. Companies such as Bristow introduced new aircraft and technologies into offshore flight operations, but the evolution has been painful, with North Sea accidents accounting for the loss of more than 90 passengers and crewmembers since the worst one in November 1986.
