Despite facing a challenging defense budget, the U.K. is determined to retain its long-established capability to train test pilots. With 70 years of experience under its belt, the U.K. Empire Test Pilots' School (ETPS), based at Boscombe Down in Wiltshire has trained hundreds of test pilots and flight-test engineers for the British military and foreign nations as well as industry. However, while there is no sign of the demand for places in training courses slowing down, ETPS and QinetiQ, who manage the school on behalf of the U.K. Defense Ministry, accept that the organization needs to transform in order to stay current.
