摘要

YouTube goes a long way in highlighting the creativity and delight some of today's university students take in being ... well, a nerd. Whether at Purdue University creating an over-engineered automated soft-drink dispensing system or at the University of Michigan putting a fresh take on dance-a-thon turned hack-a-thon, present-day engineering students add to the tradition of poking fun at who they are while reveling in what they do. A key difference for current campus denizens, however, is that YouTube can propel their work into the cosmos of a viral "must-see," creating a bit of celebrity for members of the future workforce. More than 2 million viewers signed on to watch the "epic welcome" for Georgia Tech's freshman convocation and to see one sophomore's tips for wanna-be engineers to "crush the giants on whose shoulders we stand" in pursuit of becoming a "helluva engineer."
