"The first one was accounting. Nah, I didn't want to do that. The second was aerospace engineering. Now that sounded interesting," he recalls. "I was good at math and science, so I checked that one." Hardly the reality check the A&D industry expects after pouring hours of volunteer time and funding into engineering and mathematics programs for the kindergarten through 12th-grade (high school) education. But it was what launched Hart into aerospace and engineering. He enrolled at the University of Maryland after looking at a variety of schools. "The other options were phenomenal, but a good in-state school was the better option for me," he says.
