In 2011, China emerged as a major player in the global aerospace and defense industries. Momentum with Comae's C919 narrowbody jet accelerated as numerous Western suppliers set up joint ventures in China to support the program. Details emerged regarding a new advanced Chinese stealth fighter, the J-20. And leading manufacturers concluded major agreements that promise to drive significant revenue growth for Chinese suppliers. While such developments grabbed headlines, another less obvious but significant trend is also occurring in China. The economic powerhouse is quietly building a strong position in business and general aviation (GA)-and not through joint ventures or contracts, but by outright acquisitions of Western suppliers that promise to accelerate its development in the sector.
