With a four-year contract offer last year that came as a surprise to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), Boeing ended a nasty National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) suit and won peace into 2016 with its most militant labor union. But Ray Goforth, executive director of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (Speea), says the company is taking a "profoundly negative" approach and using a "general atmosphere of intimidation" as talks are underway on renewing Speea's contract, which expires Oct. 6. Speea represents 23,000 engineers and technical workers covered by the contract.
