The International Civil Aviation Organization is moving ahead with new rules to ensure the proper recovery of critical data from aircraft downed at sea.The changes to ICAO Annex 6 Parts I and III, cleared for action at ICAO's 37th assembly in October, derive from recommendations made early last year by the French accident investigation bureau, BEA, following the loss of an Air France Airbus A330 over the South Atlantic during the night of May 31-June 1,2009. The flight, AF447, disappeared off the Brazilian coast with nary a trace and has eluded search teams in the 18 months since.
