Europrop International (EPI) has received the civil type certificate for its TP400-D6 turboprop from the European Aviation Safety Agency. The military qualification of the engine is due toward year-end, although much of the engine team's focus for this year will be on helping Airbus Military achieve civil certification of the A400M, says EPI President Simon Henley. EASA notes that this is the largest turboprop is has ever certified. The certification program involved about 12,000 running hours. EASA notes that 8,000 hr. of the total took place on the A400M flight-test program. EASA says that certifying the TP400 presented a unique series of firsts due to the leading-edge technology that is incorporated in the design of the engine. The regulator worked with EPI partners Rolls-Royce, Snecma, MTU Aero Engines and Spain's ITP to complete the work.
