Comparing the operating performance of low-cost and mainline airlines highlights that while growth can be a good thing, sometimes restraint can pay off even more. The low-costiche carrier segment is generally weaker than the mainline category in the latest Top-Performing Airlines study, and the low-cost carriers (LCC) did not see the same sharp improvement through 2010 that their legacy counterparts enjoyed. Philippines-based Cebu Air made its debut in this category after an initial public offering in October, and immediately stormed into the top spot with a score of 82. Aside from Cebu, however, there were few standout scores in the LCCiche category. Although TPA scoring formulas differ slightly for each category, it is apparent that mainline airlines performed better overall.
