Colombia and Ecuador are expanding their airport infrastructures to keep pace with air transport growth. But even with new construction projects under way, capacity constraints are likely to remain.The most important project from a capacity point of view is the ongoing expansion of Bogota's Eldorado International Airport. Now that the country's government is slowly regaining control over public security, foreign investment and economic development are more robust; Colombia's gross domestic product is expected to grow by 4.4% this year. The general economic upturn has led to an unprecedented boom in air travel, with traffic increases of 30% in 2009, 40% in 2010 and an expected 12-15% in 2011.
