Piston- and turboprop-powered general aviation (GA) aircraft manufacturers are poised to turn out more than 22,000 aircraft worth $25 billion over the next 10 years. This total excludes production of the new category of Light Sport Aircraft (LSA).rnBut a major hurdle looms: The current global economic weakness is likely to last well beyond 2009. Anemic growth will continue to hurt demand for GA aircraft in North America and Europe, historically the primary markets. In contrast, stronger performances are expected from emerging economies, particularly those of China and India; however, the GA markets in these areas are not wellrndeveloped. So overall, demand from emerging markets will not be enough to replace lost orders from customers in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
