Having weathered a global recession, plunging aircraft valuations, a credit crisis, decreased operations and, more recently, an angry Icelandic volcano, the embattled business aviation community gathers in Geneva May 4-6 for the 10th edition of the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (Ebace).rnAs in all previous sessions, this year's convention will be held at the Geneva Palexpo center adjacent to Geneva International Airport where 60 business aircraft will be on static display-the 18,000-sq.-meter stand a mere footbridge away from the exhibit halls.rnDespite the severe downturn in business aviation activity last year, the 2009 Ebace drew 11,000 guests and exhibitors, the annual show's third-best tally. So with indications, however faint, that a turnaround is near, the convention hosts-the European Business Aviation Association and the National Business Aviation Association of the U.S.-hope this year's numbers will meet or exceed those of the previous year.rnThe only major European event focused solely on business aviation, Ebace also pulls in visitors from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North America. In addition to product and service exhibits and display aircraft, this year's convention will feature public sessions on Sesar development, the European Union's Emissions Trading Scheme and Eurocontrol's Report on Business Aviation. Also, Bombardier is preceding the show's opening with Safety Standdown Europe, slated for May 2-3 at the nearby Crowne Plaza. This event is free to all attendees.rnDassault's Falcon 7X is the first purpose-built business aircraft with a digital flight control system, a technology intended to ease pilot workload, provide flight envelope protection and enable designers to reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency.
