Long the scourge of crop-killing insects, the Air Tractor 802 agricultural aircraft is being readied to fight another kind of foe. The Olney, Texas, manufacturerrnhas mounted two General Dynamics GAU-19/A .50-cal. Gatling guns (see arrows) on hard points beneath an armored, two-seat version of the aircraft, designated the AT-802U. The company conducted live-fire ground tests of a tethered prototype in April and plans air-to-ground testing, probably this summer. The prototype has three hard points per wing and another three beneath the fuselage; an additional hard point is planned for each wing on production aircraft.
