The Indian maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) industry is expanding rapidly to meet the demands of its home airlines, raising the question of when it will begin moving seriously into the international market. And the question is when, not if. Despite the country's weak background in MRO, it is increasingly clear that operators can thrive serving the domestic market, where they have the advantages of local relationships and proximity (a key issue for overhauls of narrow-body aircraft) and are less affected by the tax rules that have long restrained the industry's growth.
