Pratt & Whitney is racing to defend the geared turbofan (GTF) against legal attacks from Rolls-Royce ahead of decisions by Airbus on whether to offer the powerplant on a re-engined A320.rnPratt sees clinching a place for the PW1000G GTF on the new engine option (NEO) A320 as a pivotal "must win" for its resurgent single-aisle power ambitions, and is moving swiftly to counter Rolls's allegations of patent infringement before it can overshadow an imminent re-engining selection by Airbus. The aircraft maker is widely expected to announce a decision on the A320 NEO, and with what engines, by mid-October. The other candidate is CFM International's Leap-X.
