摘要

Despite early signs that next year will be a better one for airlines, the industry is not expected to rebound until 2011. The $62-billion decrease in revenue, 4.3% drop in yields, $4.7-billion projected industry loss and $170 billion in airline debt are making 2009 "the toughest year the airline industry has ever faced," says Giovanni Bisignani, director general of the International Air Transport Assn. IATA has just revised its loss forecast down from the $2.5 billion it announced only three months ago. "The industry is entering into a serious intensive-care mode," Bisignani says.
