The Lockheed Martin pilot flying the F-22A that crashed north of Edwards AFB, Calif., apparently did not eject and died from the Mar. 25 crash, according to initial information given to senior U.S. Air Force officials that was obtained by Aviation Week & Space Technology. A statement from Edwards says the pilot, David Cooley, 49, was declared dead at a hospital, leading to suggestions that he was kilted after ejecting. But a USAF official said the declaration of death was simply procedural so an investigation could proceed.
