An improved turbine being developed for the GEnx-1B engine on the 787 should bring it in line with Boeing's initial specific fuel consumption (SFC) goals, according to GE program managers.rnThe aerodynamic design definition for the new low-pressure (LP) turbine was released to production in early April, and testing of the new unit is set to begin shortly in a special-development rig, says GEnx program general manager Tom Brisken. "We just released a new LP turbine design that will put us right where we want to be around entry-into-service. We've done a lot of work in this particular area, and that's because this is the only component of the engine that didn't perform to expectations."
