Your article "Traffic Cop" (AW&ST Apr. 20, p. 55) is laudable in that it covers a topic of significant importance, but I believe it is incorrect or misleading on several points. From an accuracy standpoint, the commercial operator data is an order of magnitude better than that which the U.S. military provides and also does not have the cross-tagging issue occasionally found in military data. More importantly, those "barely a dozen operators" provide positional data on 130 of the 250 or so active commercial satellites in geostationary orbit. The organizers of the data center have also repeatedly offered the service to the U.S, military for free.
