Boeing is studying development of an advanced 777 derivative with a composite wing as well as all-new and 787-10 stretch concepts to counter the emerging threat of the Airbus A350-1000, but it insists the study has not assumed priority over the delayed 737 replacement exploration.rnNews of the re-winged 777 study option, which emerged unexpectedly during a briefing at the air show here by Boeing Commercial Airplanes President Scott Carson, signals a return to increased levels of product development following an almost two-year hiatus caused by the diversion of engineering resources during the 787 delay. "We're shifting from what we do next week on the 787," says PatrnShanahan, Boeing Airplane Programs vice president and general manager. "The bandwidth is freed up to pick up with these items and to get together with customers again, and not to be sitting in a windowless room in Seattle."
