The General Electric Rolls-Royce Fighter Engine Team is considering a fixed-price contract proposal to the U.S. government to help stave off further funding threats to the F136 alternate Joint Strike Fighter engine, and steer it through to production. The F136 is once again fighting for survival, having been zero-funded in President Barack Obama's 2010 defense budget, although it has received encouraging signs from the House Armed Services Committee, which designated another $463 million in research and development money for it, plus a further $140rnmillion for initial production. The Senate Armed Services Committee is due to vote on the matter later this week, while the Congressional appropriations committees will meet in a few months.
