Italy may have figured out how to pay for some of its Afghanistan deployment costs without draining the nation's defense budget, but government officials will not use the special funding stream recently approved by the parliament to finance major weapons systems.rnSome defense equipment is covered, however, including consumables such as ammunition. Otherwise, the parliament's €224-million ($334-million) allocation pays for extra training and maintenance and deployment costs for the last two months of the year. It brings the full-year special budget allotment to €1.5 billion, topping last year's €1.2 billion in supplemental outlays.
