Virgin Galactic says its newly unveiled SpaceShipTwo (SS2) sub-orbital vehicle will give the company a virtually unassailable lead in the growing space tourism and science payload business, despite delays to the ambitious program.rnVirgin Galactic founder Richard Branson says development of the SS2, which is designed to carry six passengers and two crew, is far in advance of other projects, several of which have either been put on ice (such as the EADS Astrium Spaceplane) or abandoned altogether.rn"We are maybe three, four or five years ahead of the competition," says Branson, who spoke at the SS2 rollout event at Mojave, Calif., on Dec 7. By 2020, "I hope there will be rival spacecraft. Competition is what keeps people on their toes."
