Hawker Beechcraft's recent revelation that NetJets has canceled "a significant number of aircraft," was a further setback to the long-troubled Hawker 4000 program.rnAlthough originally certified in December 2004, the super-midsize business jet has been beset by numerous production and performance problems that have kept it from anything near full production. The Wichita, Kan., company and its predecessor, Raytheon Aircraft Co., spent the lion's share of their $284 million in R&D funds for 2006,2007 and 2008 on the aircraft, according to U.S. Security and Exchange Commission filings. Hundreds of millions more dollars have been invested in the program since its inception in the early 1990s, according to those involved over the years.
