Boeing will aggressively ramp up the 787 flight-test program by flying the second airframe as early as Dec. 22, just days after the successful first flight of the prototype aircraft ZA001. The program calls for at least three flights to be completed by Dec. 31, including two by ZA001 and one by the second test aircraft, ZA002. Pre-flight ground tests on the third aircraft are also getting underway with the intention of having half of the six-strong dedicated test fleet in the air by February (see p. 18).
