Snecma is entering the final phase of testing on a core demonstrator that is expected to provide the French engine maker with an entree into the business jet market. The $100-million demonstration project, launched in January 2006 and involving more than 500 people, is intended to validate the architecture and performance of a 9,500-12,000-lb.-thrust-class engine, known as Silvercrest, that will be aimed at midsize and super-midsize business jets and 30-50-seat regional jets. The core, in which Avio and sister company Turbomeca are also involved, began running on Nov. 30.
