Thales is bringing to market enhanced/synthetic vision systems and new-generation helmet-mounted sight displays to extend its reach in all-weather systems. The Paris-based aerospace and defense contractor has lagged behind U.S. and Israeli competitors in the "virtual visual flight rules" sector, but is investing large sums to catch up. The effort is part of a broader effort to establish a leadership position in cockpit avionics on a par with industry leaders like Honeywell and Rockwell Collins, and to strengthen the company's global presence.
