As the Pentagon and intelligence community sort through the requirements for a new electro-optical overhead imaging system, planners are turning their attention to the search for new ways to quickly disseminate such intelligence to users on the ground. The intent is to pipe the intelligence from this future overhead system-now called the Broad Area Surveillance Intelligence Capability (Basic) program-directly to U.S. Air Force Distributed Common Ground Stations (DCGS) located around the globe, says Gary Payton, deputy under secretary of the Air Force for space programs. This would allow regional commanders access to the data at ground stations in their areas of operation.
