A problem with solar array circuitry could reduce the lifetime of some of SES's Lockheed Martin satellites while putting more pressure on space insurance rates, according to the Luxembourg-based satellite operator. In reporting first-half results, SES said it has experienced varying degrees of power loss in solar array circuits on some of the nine Lockheed Martin A2100 communication satellites it operates. To date, the anomaly has affected only two of the spacecraft-AMC-4 and AMC-16-causing "a minor reduction in available commercial capacity" on them, notes SES.
