摘要

The world's first supersonic business jet could be flying by 2013, but proponents will have to overcome significant regulatory, industrial and environmental challenges to make that flight a reality. The chief roadblock to SSB J operations in the U.S. is regulatory, not technical. The FAA prohibits supersonic flight over land for commercial and private jets, and unless that rule can be eliminated or modified the future looks uncertain for would-be supersonic jet manufacturers. The primary reason is sonic boom, or aerodynamic overpressure, that occurs when an aircraft exceeds the speed of sound. Numerous solutions have been proposed and test-rned that would significantly reduce this phenomenon, but none of these would eliminate it altogether.
