As a captain of a wide-body for the world's largest airline, I read with dismay the letter you published from Paul N. Nash in which he displays his callousness as he bashes pilots (AW&ST Oct. 29, p. 10). I have earned the right to express an expert's opinion on such matters. Like the thousands of my fellow airline pilots around the world who deliver passengers and cargo safely to their destinations every day, I too have my stories of emergencies and close calls that were successfully handled by decisive and professional cockpit action and decision-making.
